ACTiveLog Smartphone App
The free ACTiveLog smartphone app is a walking and cycling advocacy tool in your pocket!
ACTiveLog is different from other apps. It's not intended to inform competition, but is about community, health and infrastructure outcomes, and to help make Canberra Australia's most walkable city and cycling capital.
It has been designed specifically for the ACT Government, in conjunction with Bicycle Network.
Every activity counts in highlighting to the ACT Government the demand for walking and cycling infrastructure. For instance, if we know that a large number of aged residents are walking in a particular area, this can help determine that there may be demand for additional age-friendly facilities such as seating, lighting and water stations. If we have very low numbers of elderly Canberrans walking in another area, we should further investigate why. Perhaps the paths are unsuitable, or there are poor path connections to local services.
The more we know, the more we can improve. The data may show us that Canberrans need to take lengthy detours in some areas by foot or bike if there is a lack of good path connections. The ACT Government can investigate these and determine if improved connections are needed and whether they can be provided.
ACTiveLog will log your speed, elevation gain, time, distance and show each activity on a map. These will be automatically uploaded for data collection purposes. If you choose to, you can post your activity details to Facebook and Twitter or share them via emails or messages if you wish to. You can keep track of your own activities, see past history, track improvements and set goals over time.
The dashboard tab allows you to keep track of your activities, while the goals tab allows you to set personal goals to achieve. This can help with any fitness or health targets you might have. It can be encouraging for your own personal goals to see if you can travel a bit further or a bit faster each day. It can also help you to determine, over time, when you are most likely to be active and inactive.
You will also be contributing to a more liveable city for yourself, your family and friends by providing information which will help the ACT Government to provide better infrastructure.
Box of Bikes Majura and Pushy's Fyshwick have each donated a bike in support of the Canberra Walk and Ride Week.
