Canberra Walk & Ride Week

Join the ACT Government's inaugural Canberra Walk & Ride Week. This is an exciting initiative and the first of its type in Australia. All Canberrans are encouraged to walk, ride and catch public transport as often as possible for any journey purpose during the week. It might be your commute to school, to work, to a meeting or appointment during the day, to a social outing, to the shops on the weekend, or to one of our many and diverse events during the week.

Walking or riding a bike as a mode of transport to get from point A to point B (active travel) is an easy, fun and efficient way for all Canberrans to incorporate regular physical activity into our daily routines. Walking and riding as a mode of transport helps to keep you fit and healthy, provides a sense of happiness, health and wellbeing, contributes to a more liveable city and connects you with your local community.

As part of the Canberra Walk and Ride Week, an exciting new smartphone app has been developed which will help the Government provide better walking and cycling infrastructure for all Canberrans.

The app, ACTiveLog, is designed to use GPS traces to track walking and cycling activities of those who download and use the free app. Data collected will provide a picture of where, how and when Canberrans walk and cycle as a mode of transport. The more we understand how Canberrans move about our city on foot and by bike, the more informed our decision making processes will be for future infrastructure and facility investments.
