Construction of Stage 1 Light Rail from Gungahlin to the City is well underway. Canberra Metro are making steady progress with the construction of trackslab in the north of the alignment (from Federal Highway to Gungahlin Terminus). Canberra Metro are now laying track north of Well Station Drive and have also commenced the construction of the civil works for 3 of the stops.
At the Depot, works are progressing with the installation of trackslab and track to allow the Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) to move through the yard. The administration and maintenance buildings are also well underway. Track installation is underway from the bridge on Flemington Road in preparation for the arrival of the LRV which is due at the end of December.
In the south, works are intensifying from Federal Highway and Flemington Road intersection, with utilities being relocated and significant road widening works underway to open up the median for construction of the Light Rail trackway.
Significant progress has been made on the relocation of utilities and construction of trackslab to intersections throughout the alignment for Stage 1. We appreciate the continued patience shown by nearby residents and road users as these necessary works are conducted in the intersections. Works will continue in intersections moving forward including laying of track, installation of new signals and at a later stage, the repair of pavement and laying of new asphalt where works have impacted.
