Canberra Light Rail will transform the city by providing a world-class light rail system integrated with the wider public transport network.
It will be a safe, frequent and reliable service with consistent journey times that meets the needs of customers and the community.
The first stage of light rail comprises a 12 kilometre light rail service linking the newly developed area of Gungahlin with Civic. The alignment has been confirmed as following Hibberson Street, Flemington Road, the Federal Highway and Northbourne Avenue. The aim of the Project is to provide an incentive for people to use public transport and to ease traffic congestion as the population of the city continues to grow.
Also included in the project is the geotechnical investigation and an interpretive report, flood modelling using TUFLOW, traffic modelling through VISSIM, a depot including maintenance and stabling facility, and Light Rail infrastructure primarily through the median from Gungahlin Place to Civic.
