Want to be a heavy vehicle mechanic apprentice with Transport Canberra?
Applications will soon be open for people interested in becoming a heavy vehicle mechanical apprentice with Transport Canberra.
If you have a mechanical mind and an interest in supporting public transport in the ACT, the heavy vehicle apprentice program is for you.
We are looking to recruit full-time heavy vehicle apprentices and Australian School Based Apprentices (ASBA) for commencement in February 2018. The apprentices will undertake four years of study and practical training in conjunction with the Canberra Institute of Technology.
Apprentices have an exciting opportunity to work on all aspects of Transport Canberra's fleet from conducting minor servicing and repairs to taking part in completely rebuilding engines and transmissions. Graduates receive a Certificate III in Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Technology.
It's never been a more exciting time to work in public transport in Canberra. Over the next four years 80 new buses are being added to our bus fleet. We are also currently trialling electric and hybrid buses as part of the bus fleet. While these buses are maintained externally as part of their lease the exposure to these vehicles is a valuable experience.
Transport Canberra is a great place to work. We are an equal opportunity employer and encourage both women and men from all Indigenous and cultural backgrounds to apply.
Anyone interested in finding out more about the program can attend the upcoming information session. The session will provide an overview of Transport Canberra's fleet maintenance, explain the application process and outline the training provided during the apprenticeship. There will also be an opportunity to meet current apprentices, ask questions and tour the workshop.
Bookings for the information session are essential and must be received by Friday 29 September 2017. Once registered, people will be invited to the information session. For more information and to register email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 6207 9022.
The recruitment process will open in late October 2017 with details available shortly online at www.jobs.act.gov.au.
