Free Travel 2019 Transport

Get excited! You are invited to the launch of Canberra’s biggest ever infrastructure project - Gungahlin to City light rail, on Saturday 20 April from 9am to 4pm.

Come and try light rail for free in the City or Gungahlin Place and enjoy free travel on both light rail and buses all weekend from 20 – 21 April.

Please note: you won’t need to use a MyWay card for Transport Canberra light rail and buses that weekend.

Park & Ride for the Light Rail Launch – Saturday 20 April 2019

Help reduce road congestion and the demand for parking, and consider Park & Ride. Transport Canberra will have Park & Ride facilities available to patrons who wish to park their car away from the City and Gungahlin areas and be transported to and from the Light Rail Stations by buses.

The locations of these Park & Ride will be:

GIO Stadium

Free bus charters will be taking passengers to and from the City and Gungahlin.

Services will commence from GIO Stadium to the City and Gungahlin at approximately 8am.

Return services from the City Bus Station will depart from Platform 3. Last departure time is approximately 5pm.

Return services from Gungahlin Marketplace Bus Station will depart from Platform 3. Last departure time is approximately 5pm.

Parkes (Langton Street)

Catch a free 300 Blue Rapid to the City from Albert Hall bus stop 2248.

Passengers wanting to travel to Gungahlin from the City can catch the normal 200 Red Rapid service or a charter from the City Bus Interchange, platform 8.

Passengers who want to return from Gungahlin to the City and to the Barton Park & Ride can catch a free charter from Gungahlin Place bus stop, Platform 3, or catch the 200 Red Rapid to the City, followed by a 300 Blue Rapid southbound from Platform 1

University of Canberra (UC) (College Street, Belconnen)

Passengers who want to travel to the City to connect with Light Rail to Gungahlin, can catch any 300 Blue Rapid service from bus stop 4979 College Street opposite Radford College city-bound.

Existing Park & Ride locations will also be accessible, including Tuggeranong, Wanniassa, Mawson, and Woden.

Bike & Ride to the launch

Have you considered Bike & Ride as your preferred method of transportation to the Light Rail Launch? Combining cycling with free bus travel this weekend is an easy, healthy way to get to the event.

Why not bike share to the launch event this Saturday? Airbike is offering all Canberrans a free ride when you enter the code "LIGHTRAIL”.

The code for free travel will expire on Sunday 28 April.
