Thanks for joining us to launch the light rail!
As of 4pm today (Saturday 20 April 2019), over 25,000 people hopped on board on launch day to experience Canberra’s world-class addition to our public transport network. Todays event saw:
- 25,000 passengers (between 8am – 4pm)
- 130 trips between Gungahlin and the City
- 1560 kilometers traveled
- 8,500 sausages cooked
- 190 volunteers (almost 1000 volunteer hours)
- 15,000 cardboard LRVs

Keep using light rail
Free travel continues on all public transport on Sunday 21 April, with paying services commencing on Easter Monday 22 April. From 29 April all services become free again for one month to coincide with the launch of the new transport network.
Plan your trip with our Journey Planner and look out for customer services officers at all bus interchanges and light rail stops to assist you.
