Pay attention - it's everyone's responsibility
Rail Safety Week (RSW) is an annual community awareness week held in Australia and New Zealand designed to engage the community in safe rail practices, being held from 12 - 18 August 2019.
Transport Canberra is working alongside Canberra Metro (CMET) and key ACT Government agencies to increase rail safety awareness in the Canberra region and promote light rail safety.
When using the light rail, remember to 'Pay attention - it’s everyone’s responsibility':
- Stay behind the yellow line at the light rail stop
- Stop and look both ways before you cross
- Pay attention around the tracks and stops
Rail Safety Ambassador - Vanessa Low
Local Paralympian Vanessa Low (pictured above) is the face of Canberra Rail Safety Week, working with Transport Canberra and CMET to showcase her story and educate the community on the importance of safety on and around tracks and crossings.
At 15 years old in June 2006, Vanessa was involved in a rail incident which resulted in the loss of both her legs. As a result of her journey, Vanessa is a passionate advocate of promoting rail safety and will assist Transport Canberra and CMET on an ongoing basis to ensure Canberrans are aware of its importance.
