If you're planning on celebrating New Year's Eve in the city, take advantage of additional bus and light rail services that will help you get to and from the city. Check before your travel, Transport Canberra will be operating a Tuesday holiday timetable on Tuesday, 31 December 2019, details below.

Getting to the City

If you're planning on celebrating New Year's Eve in the city,  take advantage of additional bus and light rail services that will help you get to and from the city. Check before your travel, Transport Canberra will be operating a Tuesday holiday timetable on Tuesday, 31 December 2019, details below.

On New Year's Eve, Tuesday 31 December 2019 a Tuesday holiday timetable will be place.

The following Rapid routes are frequent direct bus and light rail routes that run between town centres and key destinations and will assist passengers to get into the City on New Year's Eve.

Belconnen

For Belconnen, the Rapid 2, 3 and 4 provides frequent access to the City later into the evening.

Central Canberra

Rapid services run through Central Canberra and into the city later into the evening.

Gungahlin

From Gungahlin, light rail provides easy access into the city.

Tuggeranong

For Tuggeranong, the Rapid 4 and 5 provides access to the city later into the evening.

Woden

The Rapid 4, 7 and 10 provides direct access to the city later into the evening from the Woden Town Centre, Cooleman Court and John Gorton Drive.

Getting home from the City

Buses

Following the 9:00 pm fireworks additional buses will be providing increased frequency from the city with the last service departing the city at 2:00 am to major bus stations in Belconnen, Gungahlin, Woden and Tuggeranong.

Light Rail

Light rail will have additional services from 8:00 pm, with the last service leaving the city at 1:30 am. If you are leaving the city after this time additional buses will replace light rail with the last service leaving the city interchange at 2:00 am.

Fares

MyWay is the most convenient and cost-effective way to pay for your travel.  All MyWay fares include a free 90-minute transfer period so you can connect to a different bus or light rail service or commence your return journey using the same ticket within 90 minutes of purchase.

You can purchase a MyWay card from a recharge agent, Access Canberra Service Centre, online or by phoning 13 17 10.

If you do not have a MyWay card you will need to buy a single ticket from a bus driver or ticket vending machine.
