Canberra Walk & Ride Week

1 - 10 March 2019

2019 is the third year of Canberra Walk and Ride Week. This year’s theme is ‘Uncover your Canberra’ recognising that a large proportion of trips we make are within our local communities. All Canberrans are encouraged to break the unconscious habit of reaching for the car keys firstly in Canberra Walk and Ride Week and then challenge themselves to keep it going throughout the week and adopt the habit in the long term.

Walking or riding a bike in Canberra is an easy, fun and efficient way to get where you need to be.

Walking and riding helps to reduce carbon emissions, provides a sense of health and wellbeing, and connects you with your local community. Quite simply, it is a great way to enjoy Canberra.

Your Guide to Cycling in Canberra and Town Centre Walking and Cycling Guides

Canberra has an excellent network of shared paths and identified routes that people can use without having to go on the road. Some of these can be seen from our roads, others are ‘hidden’ but provide very pleasant routes to get you to your destination. New Your Guide to Cycling in Canberra and Town Centre Walking and Cycling Guides provide the best routes to connect major destinations without having to cycle on the road.

All Town Centre Walking and Cycling Guides can be downloaded here.

Your Guide to Cycling in Canberra can be purchased from 1 March:

Plan your journey

Use the TC Journey Planner in combination with the new guides to ‘uncover’ how you can make the small trips within your community by bike or foot, to the shops, to friends’ houses and to school.

Walking and cycling can be combined with other forms of transport where journeys are longer using Park and Pedal and Bike and Ride.

Transport Canberra has a number of initiatives to make it easier for children to walk and ride to their school.

Change Your Mode for March

Canberra Walk and Ride Week also kicks off the ACTSmart Change Your Mode for March Eco Challenge where people can challenge themselves to change their transport habits with the chance of winning prizes.

Change Your Mode for March targets behaviour change in the community, inviting people to commit to reducing car travel by walking, cycling or catching a bus for the month of March. This challenge encourages people to reduce their transport emissions while enjoying health benefits too.
