Rear door boarding on buses

Transport Canberra bus drivers can allow customers to enter and exit buses via the rear doors at all stops. This will assist in reducing interactions between other customers and the driver. This policy change is part of our response to COVID-19 and supports our efforts to keep the community and staff safe.

The use of rear doors for boarding and exiting buses is already in place at interchanges and major stops. This change means customers can make use of the rear doors at all stops.

The use of the rear doors will be at the driver’s discretion. Drivers may choose to not open the rear doors, if doing so is deemed unsafe.

Customers must still pay using MyWay or by pre purchasing a ticket from a ticket vending machine when using the rear doors.
