How we use social media
Transport Canberra oversees Canberra’s integrated public transport network including:
Our social media platforms help us share information, news and updates about these and future services. We also share related information about the benefits of public transport.
We monitor our social media platforms Monday to Friday during business hours, and outside of business hours subject to staff availability. We will do our best to respond to any messages received via these informal platforms. If you require a formal response, please contact us.
Our social media guidelines
These are the Terms of Use you agree to when engaging with Transport Canberra on social media. We ask you to:
- treat us like you would like to be treated
- be constructive
- be polite and respectful.
Please do not:
- post content that is insulting, threatening or hateful towards a certain group of people, including Transport Canberra staff
- abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights of other contributors and Transport Canberra staff
- post any misleading, deceptive or false information (information that is not supplied, since been updated, or has not been cleared by Transport Canberra) about current services and facilities, and the light rail project
- spam your contribution to the site by sending multiple copies or versions of it
- post personal website addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers or any other personally identifiable information
- collect or store personal information of any other person or group
- post content to incite hatred on the base of race, religion, gender, nationality, sexuality, socio-economic status, or any other personal characteristics
- post or upload content of a political nature
- post off-topic or irrelevant contributions not in keeping with the prescribed topics or themes
- advertise or offer to sell any goods or services for any commercial purposes unless you have our written consent to do so.
Transport Canberra may:
- provide a warning, remove content, or block users who ignore, abuse or disregard these guidelines
- delete posts and block users
Employees of the ACT Government
Employees of the ACT Government are required to adhere to the social media guidelines for the ACT Government. You need to be an authorised officer to use Transport Canberra social media platforms as an official communication tool. Employees should also identify that opinions are their own when participating in the discussion and/or within their profile information. You can engage as an individual with the ACT Government on social media as long as it does not cross-over into your area of responsibility or is something unrelated to your official duties.
Third party content
From time to time, the Transport Canberra may choose to republish social media content that contain information or otherwise link to material related to the light rail project and its benefits. Republication does not necessarily constitute endorsement by Transport Canberra.
Filming and photography on public transport
Transport Canberra recognises that every day a significant number of community members engage in photography or videography while using the transport network, capturing moments like selfies and sights on their journey around Canberra. We want to clarify that there is no prohibition of such activities. However, we do request that individuals refrain from actions that may jeopardise the comfort and safety of others. We emphasise the importance of respecting the privacy of fellow passengers and staff while taking pictures or filming. By adhering to these guidelines, we can ensure a pleasant travel experience for everyone on board.
