You can select your concession type when setting up your MyWay+ account. If you already have a MyWay+ account, you can update your concession status. To do this, select ‘Register concession’ on the menu. Select ‘Concession’ under Fare Type, and then ‘select your concession type’ from the list. Press the ‘Submit’ button.

In your MyWay+ account you can link various methods to tap on and off. Link a contactless payment method (Mastercard or Visa) or a MyWay+ travel card so you receive the correct fare discounts (or free travel) no matter what method you tap on and off with.

You can also order a MyWay+ travel card through your MyWay+ account. Once you set up your account, you can set your concession and order a travel card which will have your concession applied.

You will receive an email reminder to update and revalidate your concession 15 days before your concession expires. Accounts where concessions are not revalidated will revert to a standard adult account.

Alternatively, you have the option of getting a new MyWay+ travel card and travelling anonymously without a MyWay+ account. You will need to add travel credit to the card for when you travel.

MyWay+ travel cards are available from MyWay+ retail outlets. Proof of concession will need to be presented at time of purchase.

To add travel credit to your MyWay+ travel card you can:

All concession holders must carry their proof of concession while travelling on public transport.

Concessions are set to expire based on predefined time periods. See concession expiry below for more information.

Using your digital wallet

If you're a concession holder planning to use a digital wallet such as Apple Wallet to travel, please ensure you have:

  • set up your MyWay+ account
  • linked your bank card
  • applied your concession in your MyWay+ account
  • activated your bank card by tapping on and off with your physical bank card at a validator.

Once that is complete, you can use your digital wallet to tap on and off and you will be charged the correct fare.

Concession expiry

Important: Concession status is set to expire based on predefined time periods. If you have a MyWay+ account, you can update your MyWay+ concession status in your MyWay+ account a week prior to expiry. Your account will revert to a standard adult account if the concession status is not updated. Concession status on an unregistered MyWay+ card cannot be updated unless it’s linked to a MyWay+ account.

Concession card holders, who wish to continue to travel with an unregistered concession MyWay+ card, are required to purchase a new card with an updated concession status prior to expiration.

Please note that all concession status expiry dates have been automatically extended to 30 June 2026 (excluding ACT Seniors who have a 3-year expiry). This extension applies to all MyWay+ concession travellers including those who use a MyWay+ account and those travelling anonymously.

This extension ensures concession customers can continue to access their existing benefits while we finalise updates to the MyWay+ system, including work underway to support a future group account feature. Although we anticipate further improvements being available later this year, timelines are still being finalised.

We encourage you to create a MyWay+ account, which provides a range of benefitsTo do so, please sign up or log in to your MyWay+ account to update, apply or remove your concession.

It is your responsibility to provide an active and accurate concession type with a valid proof of concession when travelling with Transport Canberra.

For those who travel anonymously, please be aware that:

  • The unregistered MyWay+ card cannot be updated unless it’s linked to a MyWay+ account or you purchase a new MyWay+ travel card.
  • The MyWay+ retail outlets cannot adjust or reapply concession on your existing MyWay+ travel card.
  • If you still have a remaining balance on your existing unregistered MyWay+ travel card after 30 June 2026, and chose to use it to travel, you will be charged a full adult fare.
  • The best way to keep your balance and continue to travel on a concession fare is to set up an account, register your concession and link your fare cards.

Concession expiry periods:

  • Student (primary and secondary): 30 June of the year following purchase*
  • Tertiary: 30 June of the year following purchase
  • Senior: 3 years from the date of validation, including seniors over 70
  • Pension concession: 30 June of the year following purchase

* One-off concession expiry extension to 30 June 2026 has been applied.
