MyWay+ account based ticketing

MyWay+ is Transport Canberra’s account based ticketing system.

By creating a MyWay+ account, you can:

  • set up preferred contactless payment options
  • link a MyWay+ travel card
  • register a concession
  • view your transaction and travel history
  • customise app notifications.

MyWay+ offers a range of simple payment options for bus and light rail.

  • Mastercard or Visa (physical card or digital card stored on your smart phone or watch)
  • MyWay+ travel card (purchased through your MyWay+ account or from a MyWay+ retail outlet)
  • MyWay+ pass (digital ticket available within the MyWay+ app)
  • Printed ticket (for individual or group travel, purchased through your MyWay+ account or at a ticket vending machine).

To ensure you pay the correct fare, you must tap on and tap off with the same card or device.

When using a card (Mastercard, Visa or MyWay+ travel card), you must ensure the card is not damaged, expired or cancelled.

MyWay+ travel card

Your MyWay+ travel card is issued subject to the conditions of the

MyWay+ travel cards do not expire.

MyWay+ concessions

MyWay+ concessions have predetermined end dates based on the type of concession.

When creating a MyWay+ account, you can register your concession to your preferred contactless payment option and manage your concession end date.

If you top up your MyWay+ travel card at a ticket vending machine or MyWay+ retail outlet, your concession end date details will appear on your receipt.

Visit concessions for further information on concession end dates.

Carrying proof of concession

You are required to show proof of concession/student entitlement on request and should carry it at all times. If you are not carrying proof of concession you are required to pay full fare.

Fares

Failure to tap off at the end of your travel will result in an additional charge being applied. This is also known as a default fare.

Customers acknowledge that:

  • A MyWay+ account or travel card linked to a person granted a fare exemption or concession may only be used by that person. Unauthorised use of a MyWay+ payment option linked to a granted fare exemption or concession by another person, may result in an infringement and the withdrawal of the exemption or concession.
  • In the event that a registered MyWay+ travel card is lost or stolen, the card holder will be liable for all fares, fees and charges incurred through the use of the card until the card is reported lost or deactivated in your MyWay+ account. To report a lost MyWay+ travel card call 13 17 10.
  • A new card must be purchased to replace the MyWay+ travel card that is lost, damaged or faulty.
  • Concession entitlements and stored value on a MyWay+ travel card linked to a MyWay+ account can be managed through the account. Within the MyWay+ account, you can deactivate the card and add a new travel card. Any travel balance or concession entitlement remains linked to your account and will automatically transfer to your new travel card when it is linked to your account.

Fare compliance and infringements

When using public transport you must pay your fare, or you could be fined for fare evasion.

It is an offence to travel on public transport in the ACT:

  • without being able to produce a valid ticket
  • without being able to produce your proof of entitlement when you use a concession ticket.
  • using a concession ticket when not entitled.

If you have not paid the correct fare, you may be issued a warning notice or fined.

Penalties range from $195 for travelling without a current ticket to $255 for providing misleading information of entitlement for a ticket concession.

Enforcement

Authorised officers can scan your MyWay+ card or contactless card or device to verify your ticket.

They can check:

  • your ticket type (contactless card, device or MyWay+ card type)
  • where and when you tapped on or off (your recent travel history)
  • whether your contactless card or device is valid and accepted
  • the fare you paid (if the check is done after you have tapped off).

They will not be able to see:

  • your contactless payment account details
  • your address
  • your bank statement or any retail transactions other than the last 10 contactless transport trips on that card or device.

General MyWay+ conditions

  • Off-peak discounts apply weekdays from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm and after 6:00 pm, and all day weekends and public holidays. All other periods are peak fares. There is no off-peak discount for tickets purchased at a ticket vending machine.
  • A 40 paid trip cap (30 paid trip cap for school students) applies for the calendar month with all subsequent travel that month free if you tap on and off. Note: caps are calculated on paid trips using the same payment method each time (e.g. a physical debit card). This means if your fare is free (i.e. during a 90 minute transfer) your trip is not counted in the cap.
  • You can receive a further discount using MyWay+ if you top up your card via auto top up payment options.
  • Free off-peak travel for senior and concession MyWay+ card holders applies when users tap on and tap off correctly. An additional charge will apply if users don’t tap off.

These conditions of use, and related materials, are subject to change at the discretion of the ACT Government.
