Transitioning from MyWay to MyWay+

New timetable

Please note the new term 2 timetable commenced Monday 28 April 2025.

MyWay+ is here

MyWay+ is Canberra’s new public transport ticketing system. The system provides powerful journey planning, live service updates and more ways to pay.

MyWay+ provides an easy way to plan and pay for bus and light rail travel. This includes tapping on and off with Mastercard or Visa, MyWay+ travel card or digital ticket linked to the MyWay+ app. You can also establish a MyWay+ account which you can top up, track your transaction history, and link preferred payment options and any relevant concession status.

Old MyWay cards no longer work. If you want to use a new MyWay+ travel card you can either order it through your MyWay+ account or purchase it from a range of retail outlets.

Note: You need the card number on your old MyWay card to transfer your balance to a new MyWay+ account.

It’s time to get on board. Visit Tickets and MyWay+ for information including:

Fares have resumed

MyWay+ is operational and customers are required to tap on and tap off with their preferred payment method.

We acknowledge the introduction of MyWay+ is a big transition in how to use public transport in Canberra. Please rest assured nobody, including school students, will be left behind in this transition period. Our drivers and staff will be taking an educative approach as we adjust to the change.

Installation of MyWay+ hardware

There is a small proportion of buses in the operational fleet which will not have MyWay+ hardware installed. Transport Canberra has made the decision to not install MyWay+ on buses scheduled for replacement by new, battery electric buses in the coming months.

If you board one of the buses without MyWay+ equipment installed, you will not be charged a fare for that particular trip. If you then board another bus or light rail vehicle on your journey, you must tap on and off as usual and will be charged a fare for the trip.

Transferring your old MyWay balance to MyWay+

You can transfer your old MyWay balance to MyWay+ through the MyWay+ account.

You will need the card number on your MyWay card.

Follow the steps below to transfer your balance to MyWay+.

  1. Create a MyWay+ account if you haven’t already. Once you create an account you will need to verify your email. See setting up your MyWay+ account for help.
  2. Log in to your MyWay+ account with your username and password.
  3. In your account dashboard, select ‘MyWay balance transfer’ on the menu.
  4. Select 'Add Cards'.
  5. Input the nine digit number on your MyWay card in the 'Card Number' field.
  6. Select 'Fetch'. If you have funds on your MyWay card it will appear in the 'Transfer Balance' field.
  7. Select 'Submit' if you wish to proceed with the transfer.

Note: If your transfer status is showing as pending, please call 13 17 10 for further assistance.

There is no administrative cost for this service.

Once the transfer is complete, the balance from your MyWay card will appear in your MyWay+ account. You can now use your funds with the new system. The balance on your account can be used when using a MyWay+ travel card or the QR code in app ticket.

Balance can be transferred from up to 5 MyWay cards into one MyWay+ account.

If transferring more than one card's balance, you are required to retain all cards for 3 months for audit and fraud prevention measures.

Check your old MyWay balance

When transferring your balance from MyWay to MyWay+ in the MyWay+ account, you will be able to see what the balance of your old card is.

If preferred, you can check your old MyWay balance online before commencing the transfer process within the MyWay+ account.

MyWay refunds

You can apply for a refund of the full balance of your MyWay card by completing an online form.

There will be no administration charge applied for refunds from a MyWay card or for transferring funds to the new MyWay+ system.

MyWay+ concession information

MyWay+ allows you to apply your concession and pay for your travel with different payment methods.
