For all passengers travelling on Fare free Fridays using a single use ticket, please do not scan on and off when using Transport Canberra bus and light rail services until further notice. This is to ensure you do not activate your ticket on Fridays. You can still tap or scan on and off using a bank card, MyWay+ card or in-app QR code. No fares will be charged. For more information see using paper tickets on Fare free Fridays.

Ticket vending machines

Ticket vending machines are now operational. While the old ticket vending machines accepted cash, they also showed very low levels of cash transactions. Canberra, like many Australian cities, has seen a strong shift toward cashless transactions such as using bank cards. Given the high costs involved in managing, securing and collecting cash, the new ticket vending machines are cashless. They accept Visa, MasterCard, ApplePay and GooglePay for customers who want to purchase paper tickets, top up funds and check their balance.

You can now use the ticket vending machines to:

  • top up your MyWay+ travel card
  • check your MyWay+ card balance
  • purchase paper tickets

Ticket vending machines are now operational at:

  • Gungahlin Place bus interchange - platform 4
  • Westfield Belconnen bus interchange - inside the shopping centre entrance off Lathlain Street
  • Tuggeranong bus interchange - between platforms 3 and 8
  • Canberra Airport - next to the baggage claim area
  • all light rail stops

The ticket vending machines located at the City bus interchange platform 4 and the Woden temporary bus interchange platform 6 will be operational soon.

Purchase single journey and day tickets

Touch the screen to begin and select the type of fare you wish to purchase.

Once you have purchased your paper tickets, please scan them on and off the validators. Read more about how to scan the paper tickets.
