Transport Canberra buses and light rail help people get where they need to go. They’re reliable, affordable, and good for the environment.
Most people pay their fare when they travel, but some don’t. This isn’t fair to others. When everyone pays, it helps keep public transport running well for everyone.
The money from fares goes straight back into improving buses and light rail. If people don’t pay, there’s less money to make services better.
It’s also important to tap on and off when you travel. This helps us understand how many people use each service, so we can plan better routes and times. You can tap on and off using a debit or credit card, a MyWay+ card, or a bank card on your phone.
Some people can travel for free or at a discount like seniors, students, or people with certain concession cards. If you have a concession, you must carry proof when you travel.
Soon, Transport Canberra and CMET officers will start checking fares on buses and light rail. They’re there to help so if you’re unsure or have questions, just ask. These officers can check if people are paying the right fare and will also share helpful information about MyWay+ and concessions.
Remember aggression or violence is never okay. Our team works hard to give you great service every day. Please treat them with respect.
