We recently received a lovely piece of feedback from a regular passenger and wanted to meet the faces behind the story!

George, a regular Transport Canberra passenger on the route 26 often shares a chat with his usual bus driver Matty, who has become a trusted face in George’s weekly outings into Gungahlin town centre.
“I often catch the route 26 into Gungahlin, I was speaking to Matty and he asked where my walking stick was, I explained it was broken he told me to bring it to him and he would see if he could fix it. I did this and four days later he returned it as good as new. I would like to compliment Matty not only for his courteous manners and good driving, but ABOVE all for what he did for me in repairing my walking stick. It has sentimental value and I was very pleased to be able to have it back.”
We had the pleasure of chatting with George and Matty to find out a bit more about their story, and George’s very important companion ‘Logan’. George named his walking stick ‘Logan’ appropriately after the wolf head on the handle. Logan has supported George up mountains, through rivers and on his many travels. It has offered him stability and protection – plus in our opinion it makes for a pretty cool accessory too!
We asked Matty how he was able to fix the snapped walking stick and explained how he skilfully and carefully removed a broken screw and replaced it with a longer, more supportive screw – you could say Logan is now BETTER than new!

Matty is a man of few words, but his actions show how warm his heart is. Matty initially started as a mechanic with Transport Canberra and in 2011 became a bus driver and has been providing excellent customer service since.
Big thanks to Matty, who went above and beyond for his regular passenger and thanks George for sharing a great story.
