Meet Vicki who has worked for TC for over 30 years

Vicki has been working with Transport Canberra for 31 years.

“It’s the comradery we have here, as you see people talk to you everywhere, wave to you. I just love it. I’m not a bus geek. If you ask me what size the engine is, I couldn't tell you. I just love driving. I really enjoyed it and I'm not willing to retire," said Vicki.

After first joining ACTION in 1982, Vicki has gone on to work in various positions at the bus depots.

"There was a time I was on a bus heading to the city. I saw a lady driving. I thought if she can do it, I can do it," said Vicki.

"I was only going to drive for 4 years, but I love the driving component of my job, so I'm still here after 17 years."

Vicki started acting as a supervisor in depots in 2006, working on field duties and depot duties alternatively with driving during the time. After driving the bus for 11 years, she then became a full-time supervisor and has been doing it ever since.

Belconnen Depot has hundreds of buses come and go each week, but Vicki has a superpower - she knows exactly if the bus belongs to her depot or not by simply looking at the number plate of the buses.

Besides working with for Transport Canberra, Vicki has also driven buses in America and Canada for three years.

“In 1990, I was in Canada and America driving tour buses. I was the tour lead for Aussies coming over. They were expecting Canadian or Americans, but when they arrived, they get an Aussie waiting them at the airport waving to them.”

Thank you, Vicki, for your utmost enthusiasm on driving and the dedication towards work!
