Shared e-scooter and e-bike devices

Shared e-scooter and e-bike devices are a convenient option for short trips on their own or combined with public transport. They also assist Canberra’s economy through providing employment and encouraging travel to local businesses.

Lime operates e-scooter and e-bike hire across Canberra. For more details see the map. Please check the provider’s app to see where the e-scooters and e-bikes can be used.

The scheme has proven very popular with about 1,900 trips per day taken since it began in September 2020 – that’s over 4.6 million completed trips.

You must follow the road rules when using shared e-scooters and e-bikes. Wear a helmet, adhere to speed limits and park devices safely. Please see the e-scooters and mobility devices page for more information.

How to use shared e-scooter and e-bike devices safely

  • Wear a helmet. All shared e-scooters and e-bikes come with a helmet.
  • Don't drive under the influence. Riding under the influence of drugs or alcohol is dangerous and illegal. Catch public transport, call a lift or walk home.
  • Mobile phones. Don’t use your phone while operating a shared device.
  • One person per device. You must not carry any passengers.
  • Give way. You must give way to other pedestrians and keep to the left. It is the responsibility of all users to share the footpath and road and be mindful of other users.
  • Ride to the conditions. There are speed limits in different places, but sometimes you need to go slower. Use your judgment.
  • Park sensibly. Park your shared device off the main path and away from stairs, ramps, light rail stops, bus stops and entry or exit ways.
  • Know where you can ride.
  • E-scooters may be used on footpaths, shared paths or nature strips and may only be used on roads or bicycle lanes where there is no available footpath, shared path or nature strip.
  • E-bikes may use shared paths and on‑road bike lanes and have the same rights to travel on roads as unpowered bicycles.
