From Saturday 10 January 2026, public transport fares in Canberra will increase by 2.75% in line with Consumer Price Indexing and supports the ACT Government’s ongoing investment in improving the public transport network. These fare changes help maintain service quality and assist Transport Canberra with operational costs.
This fare adjustment is consistent with the ACT Government’s annual review of fees and charges across government services.
The fare change will see:
- adult fares increase from $3.32 to $3.41 during peak hours and from $2.63 to $2.70 during off-peak,
- concession fares increase from $1.66 to $1.71 during peak and from $0.92 to $0.95 during off-peak.
The same fares apply to on both bus and light rail.
While fares are increasing, the ACT Government is continuing its fare free travel initiative with the announcement of fare free travel on Friday and Saturday evenings after 6 pm. This initiative supports the night-time economy in the city and town centres. The initiative will run through summer until Saturday 28 February 2026.
