We would like to thank our community for continuing to choose public transport and the over 6.7 million journeys taken using MyWay+ over the past seven months.
More than 137,100 people have now set up MyWay+ accounts and there are over 118,300 MyWay+ cards in circulation.
With school holidays starting next week, we wanted to give you an update on the new system.
We are committed to providing comprehensive updates on the continued improvements delivered by MyWay+.
Installation of MyWay+ on buses
Transport Canberra has fitted out all existing buses which were due to have MyWay+ equipment installed.
There will be some older buses which will not have MyWay+ installed. These buses will be replaced by new electric buses over the next few months, with MyWay+ installations to occur as the new buses are commissioned.
If you do catch a bus without equipment installed, please enjoy the free ride.
Ticket vending machines
Ticket machines are operational at all light rail stops, the Canberra Airport, and at the Westfield Belconnen, Gungahlin and Tuggeranong bus interchanges.
Passengers can use ticket vending machines to purchase paper tickets on the go, top up their MyWay+ travel card and check their MyWay+ card balance.
More information is on our ticket vending machines page.
Real time information on third party app
Real time information data is now available for third party app developers to create their own apps or use within their existing platforms.
Information on accessing this data, along with training for developers, is available on our website and has been communicated directly to existing app developers.
To help deliver better services for Canberrans, we will continue to make improvements to the real time journey planner, which will also flow into the open data portal used by third party app developers.
QR codes
We have made improvements to the size and clarity of the QR codes and are pleased to have seen an increase in the scan rate since these updates were made.
The easiest way to pay with MyWay+ continues to be by simply tapping on/off with your physical debit or credit card, MyWay+ card or a bank card in your digital wallet on your smartphone device.
Passengers without a MyWay+ card or account can also purchase a printed QR code ticket at a ticket vending machine or a digital token online to scan and travel.
Tips on scanning the QR codes can be found on our QR code page.
Accessibility improvements
Together with NEC, we’re working with disability inclusion and accessibility consultants, Get Skilled Access, to identify and make improvements to the end-to-end public transport experience for users across a broad range of physical, sensory and cognitive accessibility requirements.
A number of improvements to MyWay+ have been made, including:
- changes to the MyWay+ customer portal and mobile app to improve web accessibility, readability, and usability, particularly for users who utilise technology such as screen readers;
- changes to the font size and layout on onboard passenger information display boards across our bus fleet to enhance readability; and
- adjustments to the volume and legibility of on-board audio announcements, which notify passengers of the upcoming bus stops.
We will continue to work with NEC, Get Skilled Access and community focus groups over the coming months to inform further accessibility improvements to MyWay+.
The Transport Canberra customer experience team can be contacted on 13 17 10 for people who need assistance to gain the help they require.
The team is dedicated to helping Canberrans and prides itself on assisting people, including for setting up and managing their MyWay+ accounts and helping them troubleshoot issues.
Extension of MyWay+ transition for seniors
We have extended the MyWay+ transition period for ACT Seniors Card holders.
ACT and interstate seniors can use their Seniors Card as a flash card while travelling for free on bus and light rail services (60-69 year olds during off-peak times, and 70 years and over at all times) until Sunday 31 August 2025.
From Monday 1 September 2025, ACT Seniors Card holders are required to either create a MyWay+ account or use a MyWay+ travel card when using Transport Canberra bus and light rail services.
MyWay+ travel cards are provided free to seniors who hold a valid concession and are available at MyWay+ retail agents across Canberra.
The Transport Canberra customer experience can be contacted on 13 17 10 to assist with setting up and using MyWay+.
Ongoing monitoring
As with the introduction of all new technology, we need to continue to undertake testing and will always listen to feedback.
NEC and ourselves have staff testing the MyWay+ technology every day. We also listen to feedback from the community and from our Transport Canberra workforce. This helps us target improvements.
If you do have feedback, please feel free to use our online feedback form or contact our customer experience team on 13 17 10.
As always, please continue to be respectful of our drivers and staff as MyWay+ becomes part of the everyday routine.
