MyWay+, Transport Canberra’s new bus and light rail ticketing system, launches on Wednesday 27 November along with the end of fare free travel and the return of paid public transport.
Old MyWay cards are no longer in use. We encourage students to have a MyWay+ account or MyWay+ travel card to travel on buses and light rail when fares resume on Wednesday 27 November. Our drivers and staff will take an educative approach particularly in the initial days of the new system becoming live, but we encourage you to ensure your student has a new MyWay+ travel card or account as soon as possible.
The new ticketing system is designed to make catching public transport easier as people can choose multiple ways to pay for services, and new features including real time journey planning and being able to set up personal travel preferences on the MyWay+ app.
Now is the time to set up a student MyWay+ account:
If you want to use a MyWay+ travel card you can either order it through the MyWay+ account or purchase it from a range of retail outlets. You will need to ask for a student card to which the student concession will be applied.
Once you have a MyWay+ account setup you can link a payment option (Mastercard or Visa), register for student concession travel and GO! If you have a smartphone you can even download the MyWay+ app.
Important note: When setting up a MyWay+ account for a student, the account must be in the student’s name not their parent or carer's name. The eligible concession must also be in the student’s name. Each MyWay+ user needs their own unique email address to secure their account through multi-factor authentication.
In early 2025, primary account holders (e.g. parent or carer) will also be able to link multiple accounts in order to manage secondary accounts. We will be providing more information on this in the new year.
Tap on and off with MyWay+
To travel on bus and light rail services, simply tap or scan your preferred method:
- MyWay+ card (physical travel card available at MyWay+ retail outlets).
- MyWay+ pass (digital ticket available within the MyWay+ app)
- Printed ticket (purchased through your MyWay+ account or at a ticket vending machine)
- Mastercard or Visa (physical card or digital card stored on your smart phone or watch)
Student concession fares
Student fares on school days are $1.22 per trip ($4.80 cap on a weekday).
You must show your student ID to the driver or customer service officer if asked.
Lost or stolen cards
We know that sometimes students lose their travel cards, student IDs or misplace their cards and/or phone. If this happens, students should talk to their driver or a customer service officer.
If they lose their MyWay+ travel card, single tickets can be purchased at light rail stops, bus stations and online.
Support and assistance
If you require assistance or have further questions, call Transport Canberra on 13 17 10 during business hours. We also encourage our customers to complete our online feedback form for compliments and complaints.
