Red Hill bus shelter transformation

Local artists Carlos Mario Sanchez and Yamile Tafur Rios have transformed an iconic Canberra bus shelter in Red Hill.

The bus shelter is now covered in beautiful colours that highlight the amazing nature in Red Hill. They have created an eye-catching and meaningful mural which brings the community together.

The mural design draws attention to native animal and plant species which are endangered. This includes the Yellow Box-Blakely’s Red Gum, the Button Wrinklewort, the Perunga Grasshopper, and the Pink-tailed Worm-lizard. Through the creative project, the artists aimed to connect and bring attention to the land around Red Hill, encouraging local residents to appreciate the natural environment.

Continuing from the theme of community, Carlos and Yamile invited residents of Red Hill to come down and make their mark on the mural. Children from different families and Red Hill Primary School were part of the painting process.

Transport Canberra is proud to have partnered up with Yamile and Carlos on this project to create awareness and appreciation for the land and bring the community together.
