Meet Gail, a very special bus driver and an extraordinary person


Gail on her bus with Christmas decorations Gail has a been a bus driver with Transport Canberra for 16 years and if you’ve been on one of Gail’s’ bus trips during December, you would definitely know about it!

If there was an award for Canberra's best Christmas decorator Gail would win in all categories (especially speed and commitment). During December Gail gives herself a little extra time each morning before her first run to decorate her bus with tinsel, baubles, Santas and even a little bowl of chocolates!

Gail drives her Christmassy bus around all December and when we asked why she said “because it is a really simple way to put a smile on people's faces and bring some happiness into people’s lives”.

Gail lost her young son in December, 21 years ago and recognises how hard this time of year can be.

"If I can spread some extra joy and help my passengers to smile then I've done my little bit to support the community."

...and oh boy does it work. We hear a lot of positive feedback about Gail and she is prone to getting Christmas cards from appreciative passengers.
