Meet Priya: mother, student and Special Needs Transport attendant

Meet Priya, one of our Special Needs Transport attendants and the proud mother of a 2-year-old daughter.

This Mother’s Day, we want to take a moment to recognise Priya’s dedication and resilience. She juggles work, studies and childcare while striving to achieve her career goals.

Priya quickly became an integral part of her team since joining Transport Canberra 3 months ago. In her role, she provides vital support to students with disabilities during their school commutes. Priya’s background in nursing has given her empathy, patience and professional knowledge. This has helped her to understand and assist special needs students.

She says that being a mother fuels her passion to take care of all her passengers by treating them as if they were her own children.

“I’m trying to support the children on my buses to the best of my ability and it fills my heart when seeing them enjoying the bus ride,” Priya said.

“I may not always know the challenges they face or the situations they’re experiencing outside of the bus. But when I’m here on a bus, I want to connect with them and make sure they feel comfortable during their journey.”

Despite her busy schedule of work, study commitments and childcare, Priya remains grateful for all the blessings in her life. She credits the unwavering support of her husband in overcoming obstacles. She is also grateful for the ongoing support and guidance from her manager Kim, who mentors her whenever she faces a difficult situation.

Thanks Priya and all the mothers who work tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of others. Happy Mother’s Day!
